AYURVEDA

“Ayurveda” is an ancient system of holistic healing that originated in India and is based on the principle of balancing the three Doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) in the body. Ayurveda offers natural and effective ways to prevent and treat various health problems as well as promote overall well-being.

Here are some “Ayurveda tips that you can follow to live a healthy and harmonious life:

-Eat according to your Dosha type. Ayurveda believes that different foods have different effects on the body and mind depending on the type of dosha you have. For example, Vata type people are prone to dryness, coldness, and nervousness, so they should eat warm, moist, and nutritious foods like cooked grains, soups, stews, dairy products, nuts, and seeds. Pitta type people are prone to heat, inflammation and anger, so they should eat cold, mild and bitter foods like salads, fruits, vegetables, beans and curd. Kapha type people suffer from heaviness, lethargy and attachment, so they should eat stimulating, spicy and astringent foods like ginger, garlic, mustard, black pepper, honey and lemon.

- Cook your own food. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of cooking your food with fresh and organic ingredients. Cooking is a way of expressing your love and care for yourself and others, and it is also a way to fill your food with positive energy. Avoid eating processed, packaged and leftover food, as they do not contain prana (life force) and can accumulate toxins in the body.

- Drink plenty of water. Water is essential for maintaining hydration, flushing out toxins, regulating body temperature, and facilitating digestion. Ayurveda recommends drinking warm or room temperature water throughout the day, preferably in a copper vessel. Copper has antibacterial and antioxidant properties that can enhance water quality. Avoid drinking ice-cold water, as it can hinder digestion and aggravate Vata dosha.

- Drink herbal tea instead of coffee. Coffee is a stimulant that can increase stress, anxiety, and blood pressure. It can also dehydrate the body and disrupt sleep cycles. Ayurveda suggests drinking herbal tea which can calm the mind, balance the doshas and boost immunity. Some common Ayurvedic herbs are tulsi (holy basil), ginger, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, and mint.

- Detoxify your body regularly. Ayurveda advocates clearing the body of accumulated toxins (ama) that can lead to disease and aging. Ayurveda has various methods of detoxification, such as fasting, oil pulling, tongue scraping, nasal irrigation, and enemas. You can follow a simple detox routine by drinking warm water with lemon and honey in the morning, eating light and easily digestible food throughout the day, avoiding alcohol, tobacco and caffeine and taking Triphala (a herbal formula) at night.
